The Jaintia Hills is one of the seven districts of Meghalaya that occupies the eastern part of the state. It covers an area of 3819 Km2 which is % of the total geographical area of the state. The Jaintia Hills District of Meghalaya is a major coal producing area with an estimated of about 40 million tones. These mining activities are controlled and managed by the individual who own the land.
