However since the purchases both sets of new management have attempted to make cutbacks. CEPPWAWU is taking action to maintain conditions and has criticized both Sappi and the purchasing companies.

Sappi Limited headquartered in Johannesburg, has announced it is selling its Cape Kraft recycled packaging paper to South Africa's Golden Era Group. The company had also recently announced the sale of its Enstra mill and recycled packaging business. The transaction, initiated in March 2015, is expected to close in September 2015.

In the meantime, Sappi launched a new kraft linerboard mill in Cape Town. Called Cape Kraft, the new mill ' s production was based entirely on recycled raw material. Another new product line joined the group in 1982, when Sappi acquired Novobord, adding that company ' s production of particleboard.

The group has decided to buy into energy efficiency and its specialised cellulose business, which remains the biggest contributor to profit. The wastepaper packaging Enstra and Cape Kraft Mills were put up for sale by Sappi in line with a strategy to focus on the fibre packaging business in South Africa.
