Based in Pittsburgh and controlled by the Mellon and Davis families, its interests include bauxite mining in Jamaica, Surinam, the Dominican Republic, Australia, Guinea and Brazil, as well as the Alcoa cut its dependence on Caribbean bauxite from 84 percent in 1972 to 38 percent in 1975.
